Care needs are growing
New research from Age UK finds that the fear, isolation, and inactivity caused by the pandemic is dramatically increasing many older people’s need for care.
The study reports that 3.8 million (23%) older people’s ability to do everyday activities has worsened since the first lockdown in March last year.
- More than a third (36%) of over 60s who had difficulty showering, having a bath, or washing before the first lockdown report this has become more difficult since then
- More than two in five (43%) of over 60s in the UK, report that preparing and cooking food is now more difficult
- Nearly one in 10 (8%) – almost 1.3 million people, now have difficulty cleaning and tidying their house, when previously they were coping
The charity says its research backs up what it sees and hears from older people and their families; that being stuck at home for long periods, lacking the mental and physical stimulation of being with others, is taking its toll on many older people.
Quality of life
Certainly, at Nobilis, we are seeing a big increase in calls from the families of elderly relatives looking for expert care. At Nobilis, we believe that living at home should be a rich and satisfying experience – even in such extraordinary times as these.
Of course, our carers are trained in personal care, administering medications, and in caring for people with dementia or Parkinson’s, but they also do so much more. They’ll share a joke, take time to listen and build a friendship rooted in trust. Our quality of care ensures a quality of life, and that’s so important to us – a hand that’s held with genuine feeling can transform the day.
We select our carers based on your needs, meaning they soon become a trusted extension of your family. They are there to encourage, reassure and reinvigorate. Remember, our in-home care isn’t limited to lists of conventional tasks; it’s defined and determined by you. Tell us your idea of the perfect in-home care package and we’ll work with you to make it happen.
