Meet the team… Rachel
Rachel began her job working as part of the call centre team at our Southampton HQ just a couple of months ago, but already feels part of the Nobilis family. Here she tells us why she loves her job so much and how it fits with her number one aspiration to help people and make sure they’re getting everything they can out of life.
I have previously worked in pubs and hotels but working for a care company is the most fulfilling job I could ever imagine. The team I work with is made up of the most amazing group of people and I feel lucky that I get to work with them every day. Everyone here is hardworking and caring towards each other, carers, clients, and their families.
My best friend was my grandad, who sadly passed away in April 2019. The care he received in hospital really helped me appreciate what carers and nurses do within our communities. I watched them help my grandma deal with the stress of what was going on and afterwards they helped her cope with the loss, regularly calling in to make sure she was ok. It’s fulfilling that I can now be a part of that.
Each day I write a list of all the tasks I need to do and start answering calls. They can be anything from a service user checking their call times, to someone who has had a fall – meaning we need to make sure they are helped as quickly and efficiently as possible. Clients and carers really do start to become like family and that’s what I enjoy the most. They really do make the long days worth it.
To be a good service operator, you need to be compassionate and understanding as you are speaking to people from all different backgrounds. You must also be able to handle calls respectfully and kindly, even if someone is calling to have a moan.
Recently, a lovely lady called in to tell us it was her birthday and that she was spending it alone, so I asked her if she would like the office to sing her a Happy Birthday at the end of the day as we would love to celebrate it with her. She told us that she would love that so when 5pm came round, I called her, and we sang as she listened to us on loudspeaker and she loved it! We are now making sure that we are alerted whenever a client or carer birthday is approaching so we can always give them a call to say Happy Birthday.
I’ve only worked here for a short amount of time, but receive incredible support from my managers, who ensure everyone is praised for what they do and provide us with positive, constructive feedback. We are all currently training to use new software, but we are all in it together and helping each other where and when we can. There have been no struggles that we can’t solve as a team. We are taking on new branches and it has been so lovely getting to know all the new carers and clients. Every day is different, and I am excited for my future within this company.
