Meet the team… Paige
Paige works as a Nobilis Recruitment Co-ordinator at our Southampton HQ. Here she tells us how her career in care began and why she recommends Nobilis to potential recruits
My career started in care officially when I was 17. I worked for a small domiciliary care company in Bishops Waltham in Hampshire for a few short months before I moved into a recruitment role. However, my family as a whole has always been involved in aspects of care; my mum has been a carer for as long as I can remember, and my dad has three adults with learning disabilities who live with him through Shared Lives that my nan (his mum) used to care for and they have always been around.
I’ve always loved the job – helping people in any capacity makes me happy be it a quick chat with a cup of tea, doing the washing, or helping someone out of bed to get them ready for their day – I’ve always found it rewarding. You meet great people, with great stories when you support them in their daily lives. In fact, I think that some of stories I’ve heard have been a big influence on who I am and how I perceive the world.
I started with Nobilis in September 2020 and it was a Godsend. I had just bought a house with my partner, who had a fantastic new job, and I was working with a recruitment company at the time, but, due to Covid-19, I was furloughed most of the year. I was about to start on a part-time, temporary contract at a local supermarket when I saw the ad for this role. I’ve always wanted to work in recruitment, and I love care, so I thought why not combine the two?
I’m now here recruiting carers for the business across the South coast and working with so many fantastic people that it has genuinely changed my life. I have made some amazing friends and it is such a lovely place to work.
Being a former carer has helped me to have meaningful conversations with people who have never worked in care before, that were perhaps scared to take the plunge. It’s always nice to hear other carers’ stories and to be able to relate to them on a personal level – to not just feel like you’re speaking to someone who has no idea what it is like to do the job. And anyone can be carer; so long as you are passionate and genuinely like helping people. Don’t get me wrong, it is hard work, but it’s so rewarding.
Nobilis provides 15,000 hours of homecare per week across the South of England. Whether that is helping our clients with day-to-day personal care, house-hold chores or simply making some tea and keeping them company, our service is so crucial to so many. That means we need kind and reliable carers to join our teams. Nobilis offers flexible hours and contracts and qualified carers can start immediately, with a starting bonus and paid support & training for unqualified staff. A four-year training program for those who want to grow their careers within the care sector, that could take you through to Apprenticeship Level 5 in Adult and Social care.
